John 3 v16 Greatest Prospect

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.       John 3 v16 8)   The greatest prospect "Everlasting life"; the world has a saying "Get a life", and usually it comes from the younger generation who see the lifestyle of older people as boring and unexciting.  The principle is world wide and comes from the inner dissatisfaction most of us have about life.  Some turn to excesses, others to riches, and others to the constant pursuit of excellence.  This in itself is a confession that the simple things in life are not enough, that human beings are seeking more, because in themselves they are discontent. Deep down we all know there is something more, something better, something superior to what we have known.  Jesus said in His prayer John 17 v2-3 "As thou hast given Him (His Son) authority over all flesh to give eternal life to as many as tho...

John 3 v16 Greatest Peril

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life"     John 3 v16 7)   The greatest peril facing the human race The instinct for survival is the most powerful emotion in humanity..  Consequently we are always concerned with threats from external sources that may bring to an end life as we know it.  Things like wars, pandemics(such as we are experiencing now), disasters, invasions from the(largely)unknown outer space, all concentrate our minds and talents to create certainty and minimise fear.  What is not considered so much in all this is that the greatest threat to our existence is the God who created us, and, who, in a moment's time could  obliterate us.  This is the reality of our existence, that we are living under the greatest peril, and mostly we don't want to know, and certainly we don't want to talk about it;  it has been taken out of ...

John 3 v16 Greatest Plan

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life"     John 3 v16 6)  The greatest plan ever devised Twenty five glorious words, in which there are ten major words;  God...loved...world...gave...Son...whosoever...believeth...perish...have...life.  Do these complete the triad of tens in the bible?  The ten words of creation proclaiming the power of God;  The ten commandments proclaiming the holiness of God;  now the ten words of salvation proclaiming the love of God!  These can be linked together in couplets to form a beautiful summary of Divine intervention in the plight of the human race. God....Son                   the source of the message, no higher source, no higher authority. Loved...Gave               the script of the message, why it happened, how it ...

John 3 v16 Greatest Potential

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life".    John 3 v16 5)   Greatest potential envisaged "Whosoever", it's a very special word, and one that only an impartial God can pronounce.  The world prefers exclusivity, something which is the privilege of the few(in their eyes elite), but whosoever is the vocabulary of God for He is all- inclusive.  His provision for the world is for all.  The Labour party has a slogan "for the many not the few", and this is a noble idea, but God goes further and says "for all, without exception, and without exclusion".  It just means "everyone", every man, every woman, every boy, every girl, in all the world.  The best way to say it is "Whosoever means you!".  There are no limitations with God, no doctrine of limited atonement in the bible, we are the only ones who place limitations upon th...

John 3 v16 Greatest Provision

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life".     John 3 v16 4)  The greatest provision ever made We have considered, briefly the greatest person displaying the greatest passion to the greatest possible audience;  now we think of the greatest provision.  The phrase "He gave His only begotten Son" stands as the greatest gift offered to anyone either now or in the future.  The words "love" and "gave" are indispensable partners.  The gift is the expression of love, and the magnitude of the gift is the extent of the love.  How much does God love the world?  It can only be understood in the value of what He gave.  His "only begotten Son", this is difficult for us to understand, because it is a unique way to describe the mysteries of the Godhead.  The bible clearly teaches that Jesus who came as a man was also God, equal with God in ...

John 3 v16 Greatest Population

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life"     John 3 v16 3)   The greatest population ever addressed We now focus on the audience being addressed, which is the greatest it can ever be, the sum total of every living human being at any one time.  The word for world, which is a common word in John's writing, is the Greek cosmos which refers to an ordered arrangement of things, whether of the material world and the laws of physics which govern it, or the moral world and the laws which govern civilised society.  This is the opposite to chaos which is a disorder of anything.  This then is spoken to the greatest number of people without partisanship or partiality.  He speaks to Israel, to the Gentiles, to the isles, that is those living in the remotest part of the world.  Jesus was actually speaking here to Nicodemus, a prominent Jew, bu...

John 3 v16 Greatest Passion

" For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life"    John 3 v16 2)The Greatest Passion ever displayed Having considered the greatness of His person we are not surprised that in all His attributes He is superior and nowhere is this more evident than His love for human beings.  The bible exults in the love of God which is greater than all loves.  Paul wrote of "His great love wherewith He has loved us.."(Ephesians 2 v4).  So we consider first the extent of God's love, " God so loved the world".   There are a number of words for love in the Greek language, and apparently when the new testament was written, they had to invent another word( agape ), that would set God's love apart from every other.  Paul spoke of it in Romans 5 v8 as "God's own love", which sets it apart from the best of human loves.  John spoke of "..what manner of...
